The actual German name for a beer boot is a “bierstiefel,” and they are popular in Germany, Austria and other countries. The movie’s characters struggle with drinking from the boot because air pressure forms a vacuum of beer in the boot’s toe and once it’s released, the beer comes gushing out into the drinker’s face. If you watch the movie “Beerfest,” you’ll notice a large, glass boot (referred to as “Das Boot”) used in the movie’s beer-drinking Olympiad. So, why do Germans drink beer out of glass boots?
